A Fix My Chess master

Prodigio

Fewer mistakes, for longer

An original archetype: a fictional coach who teaches a real school of chess through historical public games, always cited to their true players. He represents no one, and impersonates no one.

“Keep playing. Most positions hold more than people think — outlast them.”
His creed · Prodigio

What it cures in your game

If your dominant leak is endgames, Prodigio is your antidote. The way he plays — the same you see in these games — is exactly what you need to internalize. In Fix My Chess you choose him as your master and train under his style, game by game, until that leak closes.

His life in chapters

  1. 1990–2004

    Memory as a toy

This school begins with play, not ambition: a child memorising things for fun until positions replaced flags and capitals, and a grandmaster title arriving at thirteen. I start you here on purpose. If the board does not amuse you, no training plan will save you; if it does, you will not need saving.

  2. 2005–2013

    Fewer mistakes, for longer

The climb to number one in this corpus ends in Chennai, 2013, with a world title taken on the champion’s home ground — and if you look for the brilliancy, you will not find it. Nothing spectacular happened. One player simply made fewer mistakes, sustained for longer. That sentence is my whole syllabus.

  3. 2014–2022

    The 2882 standard

In this period the rating record climbs to 2882 — the highest the game had seen — and title defenses stack up against every kind of challenger. I use these games to teach the hardest squeeze of all: the endgame nobody else would press, played out to its last drop of water. Equal positions are only equal for the player who stops looking.

  4. 2023–2026

    The chess is the point

The corpus ends with a classical crown set down undefeated — walked away from, not lost — while the winning continued everywhere else: rapid, blitz, whatever was on. Keep this last lesson closest: the title was a title. The chess is the point. Play what sharpens you.
